Presented by the Centre for Chinese Research, join us for an afternoon with Professor David Ownby, who will be sharing his reflections on a decade’s work on his translation blog, “Reading the China Dream” (https://www.readingthechinadream.com/). There will be an opportunity to raise your own questions about translation and scholarly engagement.
Dr. Ownby says: “For ten years I translated the writings of Chinese intellectuals almost everyday and there are now more than 10,000 pages on the Reading the China Dream website. What does it mean to see China through the eyes of these intellectuals? What does translation accomplish? What does this body of work look like now that I’m beginning to move past it? What does this kind of project mean to the field of China Studies?”.
A light lunch will be provided for those who register in advance.
