On December 5th, we had the honour of hosting internationally-renowned photographer and UBC alum, Finbarr O’Reilly. He shared his experiences looking at the unpredictability of war that are documented in his new book, Shooting Ghosts.
Shooting Ghosts was co-authored with U.S. Marine, Thomas Brennan. Brennan and O’Reilly became friends during the war in Afghanistan, and Finbarr documented not only Brennan’s experience with the war itself, but also his post-war experiences. Shooting Ghosts, written in alternating first person, details not only the tribulations of what they both experienced during the war, but also their road to recovery.
Global News recently aired a segment mentioning this event and Finbarr O’Reilly will be on Roundhouse Radio’s Sense of Place with Minelle Mahtani this weekend.
This event was co-sponsored by the UBC Faculty of Arts, the UBC Department of History and the Liu Institute for Global Issues, as part of the School for Public Policy and Global Affairs.
