SPPGA Professor Moura Quayle Appointed UBC Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Academic Affairs

Moura Quayle

Moura Quayle, Professor and founding Director of the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, has been appointed as Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Academic Affairs at UBC for a five-year term commencing August 1, 2020.

Moura brings to the role vast administrative and leadership experience, as founding Director pro tem of the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) (2017-2019) and former Director of the Liu Institute for Global Issues (2014-2017), where she also acted as co-Director of the Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs (MPPGA).

Moura also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (1997-2005) during its transition from Agricultural Sciences and as Associate Vice-President, Academic Programs at UBC Okanagan (2004-2005). She has also participated in various Faculty and university-wide committees, including the UBC Strategic Plan Steering Committee (Chair, 2017-2018) and the Vancouver Senate. Moura has a deep commitment to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education and transformative learning.

“What a time to be taking on a new position! Lots of challenges and opportunities. I am really looking forward to working with Andrew Szeri, our Provost, and the team in the Provost’s Office. As a part-timer in the Provost’s Office since May, I’ve had a chance to get involved in a number of projects, like the Academic Renewal initiative, that signal a very exciting time for UBC. I’ll still be teaching in the MPPGA program so I am happy that I’ll be seeing staff, faculty, and students. And, after all, I am only a few minutes away in Koerner — or better yet, a Zoom call away.”

Please join us in congratulating Professor Moura Quayle on this appointment!
