About

Art is an enthusiastic and creative thinker who is passionate about creating social change. He spent the first five years of his career as an automotive engineer working on electric vehicles and is convinced of the need for effective policy to combat climate change, colonization, and the destructive effects of capitalism. Art received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Studio Art from Dartmouth College, and moved to Detroit, Michigan to work for General Motors on electric vehicle batteries. Art then worked for electric vehicle startup Rivian as a product designer for accessories and energy storage. He has volunteered in Detroit Public Schools teaching students engineering principles and hands-on skills, as well as with numerous community groups doing everything from tax-foreclosure prevention to organizing community events such as the Detroit Kite Festival and marches for environmental justice with the Sunrise Movement. Art is passionate about creating public systems that enable people to creatively flourish and enjoy their lives and nature, and is a strong believer in preserving public space and encouraging DIY culture and community. He enjoys all manner of outdoor activities as well as reading, drawing, and building things.
