About
Elijah Greenstein is an Honorary Research Associate at the Centre for Japanese Research (CJR), the Institute of Asian Research at UBC’s School of Public Policy and Global Affairs. Elijah is a historian of modern Japan and East Asia, with interests in maritime, spatial, and transportation history. His current research project explores the evolving place of Japanese ships in the global shipping industry from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century. He received his PhD in East Asian Studies from Princeton University in 2019 and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Program on US-Japan Relations at Harvard University from 2019 to 2020. His research has been supported by the U.S. Fulbright Program and the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies.
