Genevieve Varelas

About

Genevieve (she/her) is a passionate advocate continually pursuing avenues to create social change. She is a recent BA graduate who double majored in Political Science and Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social justice and has an Associates Degree in Speech and Drama from Trinity College London. During her undergraduate years, Genevieve spent her time volunteering for various social justice organizations such as Shelter Movers Vancouver, Amnesty International and West Coast LEAF. She was also on the 2020 UBC Moot Court executive team.

In summer 2021, she completed the NATO Field School program which was an intensive introduction to international relations and NATO defence policies. During the program, Genevieve attended briefings with members of parliament, military, ambassadors and other policymakers, examined and evaluated scholarship and readings on diverse international policy topics, and rehearsed the processes needed to analyze, assess, and apply defence policies in realistic, interactive simulations. The program further fuelled her ambitions to create social change on an international level. Apart from her social advocacy work, Genevieve enjoys outdoor activities, soccer, travelling and trying new foods.
