Born and raised in the capital city of India, New Delhi, Riya has always had a keen interest in social sciences. This led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Delhi where she discovered her passion for social justice and development. During this time, Riya volunteered at a youth-run NGO aimed at improving public education systems in India. She also worked as a researcher under Dr. Jean Dreze, on a research and action project to assess India’s national food security policy. Upon graduating, Riya worked at a global public affairs firm, APCO Worldwide, for two years where she was involved with policy advocacy on issues ranging from child-protection, public health, to human-trafficking. Through the MPPGA program, Riya aspires to gain a well-rounded understanding of policy design, implementation, and analysis to apply it to socio-economic policy challenges faced by the world today. She believes global partnerships and progressive policy design can lead to meaningful social reform.
