Karthik Anand Chinta
About
“When action meets compassion, lives change” is the motto that drives Karthik in his everyday life. He has associated himself with various social causes since the third grade, after an endeavour to raise money for the basic needs of the visually impaired triggered a desire within him to strive for the welfare of disadvantaged people. The desire coupled with the motive to discern on how science and technology could be utilized to solve the most pressing global issues had influenced him to obtain an undergraduate degree in engineering. Karthik quit his job in the corporate industry in 2014 and moved full-time into the sustainable development field. Ever since, he has collaboratively engendered policy-driven change with functionaries from both public (including government ministries), as well as private organizations. Through his professional endeavors, he has assimilated expertise on facets such as pursuasive leadership, project management, training and facilitation, advocacy, partnerships management, research and data synthesis, stress management, to name a few.
With an intention to further his awareness on aspects pertinent to policymaking, notably on the ways to analyze or amend public policies through lens of inclusion, democracy and progressiveness, make policies more binding in nature, and to forge the global network needed to beget large-scale sustainable progress (particularly, on poverty eradication and climate change), Karthik has decided to pursue the Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs degree at UBC.
In his free time, Karthik loves to be very outdoorsy and touristy. He goes on solo trips/explorations, does adventure sports, and tries to maintain an active lifestyle. He also is an avid photographer and a theatre performer.
