Join our panelists for an insightful discussion on a new set of gender indices developed to monitor progress on gender equality and women’s rights globally.

This webinar, hosted by the University of British Columbia (UBC) in collaboration with UN Women, University of Gothenburg, and the Center for Demographic Studies at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), will focus on the presentation and discussion of a new set of gender indices developed to monitor progress on gender equality and women’s rights globally. Introduced last year, these indices represent a crucial step forward in measuring progress and informing policies aimed at achieving gender equality at global, regional, and national levels.

The work has evolved significantly, and country-level applications are now underway. For example, UN Women, with partners, has collected new data and produced index values specifically for Afghanistan, offering a perspective on fragile states’ challenges and opportunities.

The event will highlight the journey of these measures—from global to country adaptation—illustrating their strengths, weaknesses, and applicability to various contexts. It will also provide insights from experts working on global and national applications. Additionally, Professor Laurel Weldon will present the Feminist Mobilization Index, highlighting the impact of women’s movements on policy changes across the globe.
