KPP Hosts the First Seminar on North Korea Held in the Parliament
The Knowledge Partnership Program (KPP) at UBC, led by Professor Kyung-Ae Park, hosted a seminar on North Korea in the Parliament on June 4, 2025. Titled “North Korea in a Changing World,” the event was held in partnership with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Peace and Security in the Korean Peninsula and marked the first-ever seminar on North Korea to take place in the Parliament.
Amid rising uncertainty in the international order, the seminar brought together prominent experts from the United States, Canada, Russia, and China for a timely discussion on North Korea’s evolving geopolitical landscape. The discussion featured expert analysis on a range of issues, including Trump’s new approach to North Korea, the role of North Korea’s Track-II diplomacy, the shifting dynamics in North Korea-China relations, and the evolving relationship between Pyongyang and Moscow.
A select group of participants—including members of Parliament, senior government officials, leading academics, and members of the diplomatic community—attended this invitation-only seminar to foster dialogue on North Korea’s strategic direction and its broader implications for the regional and global security environment.
