Ambassador Mark McDowell: The Political Transition in Myanmar

Ambassador Mark McDowell is Canada’s first resident ambassador to Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Since joining the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1994, he has served in New York, Taipei, Bangkok and Beijing. He was the Director of Public Diplomacy and Domestic Outreach at his most recent position at headquarters, and has works extensively on international indigenous issues. Ambassador McDowell received his Masters degrees from the University of Toronto and Harvard University. He was also an Asia Research Fellow at the Ash Institute for Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School.
