This event is an opportunity for students and faculty to present their research and participate in discussions on societal benefits of research and how the knowledge generated by research translates into practice, specifically in the field of international development.

Target audience

Graduate and undergraduate students, researchers, faculty and practitioners with an interest in international development.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the Symposium participants will be able to:

  • Enhance their understanding of the relationship between research and policy, define research impact
  • Identify opportunities for cross-sectorial collaborative partnerships in international development projects
  • Discuss how to derive policy implications from academic research

Program includes:

  • Keynote presentation by Margaret Catley-Carlson, former President of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
  • CIRDI project presentations
  • Panel discussion: Challenges and opportunities of connecting research to actionable change in international development
  • Group exercise: From research impact to policy impact
