The Institute of Asian Research is proud to invite Christopher Maclean, Counsellor (Commercial) and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing on Tuesday March 3rd, 2015 from 12:30-2:00pm. A light lunch will be served.

 ABSTRACT:

The rapid changes occurring in China present constantly evolving challenges and opportunities in terms of doing business with China.  Mr. MacLean will speak to some of the recent trends, their significance for Canadian interests, and the steps the Embassy in Beijing is taking to address these.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Christopher MacLean has been Counsellor (Commercial) and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing since July, 2014, where he is responsible for managing issues relating to two-way investment, science and technology cooperation, as well as promoting bilateral opportunities in the manufacturing and high-tech sectors.

Before coming to Beijing, Mr. MacLean headed up the commercial side of the Greater China Division at the Canadian Dept. of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development in Ottawa.  Mr. MacLean was previously Counsellor (Commercial) and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin.  Since joining the diplomatic service in 1986 he has also had assignments in Vienna, London and Duesseldorf.

Mr. MacLean has an M.A. in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School at Carleton University in Ottawa.  He is married to Roswitha Diehl-MacLean, and has three sons.
