Client: Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario
Students: Ashley Barn, Anjana Donakonda, Nivedita Harsh
Faculty Lead: Tsering Shakya
Fieldwork Location: Ontario
Year: 2024-25
About the Project: The project focuses on understanding the challenges faced by Tibetan refugees in the Canadian legal and immigration system in collaboration with the Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario (CTAO). CTAO works with Tibetan refugees who face unique challenges including a lack of documentation, as well as being a stateless population who reside from countries including India, Nepal and China. As such, the team will focus on undocumented Tibetan refugees from India who have difficulty obtaining legal status in Canada. The goal is to propose a Toolkit aimed at educating key decision-makers, including immigration officials, judges and lawyers who work in the Canadian immigration system.
