Closing the Gap: Financing the Transition Towards an Inclusive Blue Economy IIED Webinar

This is a recording of a webinar hosted by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) on 10 June, 2020, that examined how to mobilise public and private finance to enable the transition to a sustainable and inclusive blue economy.

Timed to coincide with World Oceans Day 2020, the online event asked how flows can be maximised and complementary in meeting the financing gap? What are the advantages and risks? And how might the coronavirus pandemic impact the transition?

The speakers were Angelique Brathwaite, director wider Caribbean and co-founder of Blue Finance; Rashid Sumaila, Professor of ocean and fisheries economics with the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries at the University of British Columbia; and Torsten Thiele, senior research associate at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies.

The event was facilitated by Laura Kelly, the director of IIED’s Shaping Sustainable Markets research group.
