As the academic year comes to a close, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of another class of graduating students in the Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs program here at UBC.

As SPPGA Director Allison Macfarlane said in her address to the students following their convocation ceremony: “We are facing uncertain times. But for those of us in public policy and global affairs, this is our moment. You have all gotten a degree in an ‘I’m going to change the world’ program… and I know you’re going to have impacts at so many different levels.”

This dynamic group of students has spent the past two years sharpening their analytical skills, collaborating across disciplines, and engaging with some of the most pressing challenges facing our world today. From climate action and global governance to inclusive economic development and human security, their work has spanned borders, sectors, and perspectives.

Beyond their academic accomplishments, this cohort has fostered friendships, supported one another, and helped to shape a vibrant and inclusive community at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs—and we know they will continue to lead with integrity and purpose wherever they go.

“To our dear classmates who have become our colleagues, friends and family. These 20 months have been intense, inspiring, and absolutely unforgettable. We came from over 25 different countries but built one shared community, and now it’s time to take what we have learned out into the world. The problems are big but so are our learnings, so is our hope, and so is our responsibility. Let’s show up with curiosity and compassion”
