It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Andrew Mack. He was a dynamic member of the Liu Institute for Global Issues community in an era when members of staff, faculty and students were involved in research and advocacy around the human security agenda. Andy played a key role by bringing empirical data to inform public debate on conflict and human security crises. His centre’s Human Security Report was launched at the Institute in 2005 and had a major international impact. Key findings of this Report transformed and remain central to the understanding of deadly conflict and its societal consequences.
Andy was known for his warm personality and sense of humour. A larger-than-life figure in academic and policy circles in Australia, Europe and North America, Andy is well-remembered as an inspirational force in connecting rigorous academic scholarship to policy applications.
