Program Description
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is committed to fostering the next generation of Asia Pacific researchers and practitioners. To this end, it is offering a short-term Junior Research Fellowship for applicants interested in learning more about Asian businesses. Applicants should be Canadians who are currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program, or who have completed their degree programs within 12 months of the application deadline of Friday, November 11, 2016. The successful applicant will be notified at the end of November.
The Junior Research Fellow will work at the Foundation’s Vancouver office and will complete a program of research and other work related to the Foundation’s research on China’s health sector, health resource mobilization, and health environment relationship. Successful applicants will have the following qualifications:
1) Excellent research skills;
2) Degree or significant coursework in health, economics, or environment;
3) Fluency in Chinese, both reading and writing;
4) Interest in learning about contemporary China and/or Canada-China policy issues.
Benefits to the Junior Research Fellow
The Junior Research Fellow will work under the mentorship of one or more of the Foundation’s project managers, and will engage in two types of activities:
• Working with the APF’s research team in conducting research on China’s health sector;
• Working under the guidance of the Foundation’s research team to produce one or more short analytical essays (700 – 1,000 words) on a topic chosen by the applicant in consultation with APF Canada staff.

Eligibility
Applicants should be Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s-level program. Recent graduates may also apply as long as they have completed their degree programs no later than 12 months prior to the application deadline.
The Junior Research Fellow will be encouraged to work out of the Foundation’s head office in downtown Vancouver, M-F during normal office hours.
Amount of grant
The amount of the grant will be $6,000, and will be payable in two installments: $3,000 upon signing the grant agreement, and $3,000 upon successful completion of the fellowship deliverables (described under “Benefits to the Junior Research Fellow”).
Start/End Dates
The recipient should be able to complete the fellowship between December 2016 and March 31, 2017.
Application Procedures
Applications should include the following:
• Résumé detailing the applicant’s academic background, skills and professional experiences;
• 1-2-page cover letter detailing the applicant’s career interests and goals, how they hope to benefit from the fellowship, and why they are interested in working in the thematic area specified in the call for applications;
• Copy of applicant’s university transcript (scanned or electronic copies are sufficient);
• Name, title and contact information (email and phone number) for two references.
References will be contacted only if the applicant is short-listed for the fellowship.
