Ricky Tang

MPPGA Student, Class of 2024

About

After 4 years of study, Ricky finished his bachelor’s degree in International Relations at UBC. During his time as an undergraduate, he has harbored a specific interest in the inequalities between nations, which could be attributed to his extensive study on the economic history of Europe and Americas. In his future study at SPPGA, he seeks to acquire all relevant skills so as to address the historical injustices done by Europeans colonizers through the formulation of global policies.

Ricky’s other field of interest lies in sustainable forest policies. After doing a case study on wildfires caused by Indonesian mangroves and palm oil industries, he came to realize that a well-established incentive-structure would often be undermined by local political struggles, corruption, and rent-seeking practices. As a result, he aspires to counter these problems by designing a more inclusive and enforceable certification framework. Hopefully, after his study at SPPGA, he may turn this blueprint into reality.
