GPP 591N: Power and Practice (Term 2, 1 position, 100 hours)
Delivered fully online, students will develop the knowledge and skills they need for a greater understanding of their own power and how to navigate the corridors of power they will walk as they implement their vision in the real world. The course builds on the Fall 2019 Power and Practice offering with expanded time to allow for more practitioners to join us and to include a case study. Specific areas students will explore include:
- Cultivating a purposeful and focused commitment to creating a more just world
- Gaining insight into successful approaches to engaging public officials and others who can assist them as they work to implement their vision
- An understanding of the practice of power and how it plays out in their daily interactions as a policy-maker or practitioner in their chosen field of practice.
The course will culminate in the Power Game, a role-playing game that gives students the opportunity to put their newfound knowledge and skills to use to effectively use power and influence to get things done in a simulated City Council meeting.
The Teaching Assistant will need to attend online classes and provide support to operate ZOOM/Canvas.
