About the Speaker: Professor Wang Wei is academician and director of History Division at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He served as director of the Institute of Archaeology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences from 2006 through 2016. He is the current president of the Archaeological Society of China. He has served many national and international organizations and committees, including the National People’s Congress, State Council’s Committee of Academic Degrees, and National Foundation of Social Sciences. Professor Wang has directed many archaeological excavations and research projects mostly concerning early complex societies and ancient Chinese civilization, and he has published over two hundred books and articles. Among many honors and awards he has received are the foreign honorary member of the Archaeological Institute of America, and the honorary fellow of Germany’s Archaeological Institute.
