Prof. Maxwell Cameron (SPPGA; Political Science) is the lead author of a new report looking at the crisis of democracy in the Andean region through evaluating: access to free and fair elections, incidents of electoral denialism, political violence and the ability of citizens and politicians to work together towards solutions.
This report details recommendations to strengthen electoral institutions in the face of this ongoing crisis. It was published in the Spanish language by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and can be viewed here: Crisis políticas en los países andinos. Additionally, commentary on the report in English can be found on The Conversation here: Democracy across the Americas is in crisis.
“Electoral authorities are besieged. There are threats to their autonomy from a wide range of forces. Yet they are vital to the capacity of states to hold free and fair elections.”
