Job Posting: Teaching Assistantship for GPP 509, Communications Policy, with Professor Taylor Owen
Teaching Assistantship available for Winter session Term 1 for Communications Policy, a 3-credit course as part of the Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs program at UBC. The course examines how to effectively communicate policy to stakeholders, with an emphasis on transparency, accountability and the rise of new media. The course explores a wide range of communication formats, including written, oral and multimedia policy communications.
Qualifications: Current PhD student at UBC
Position: 10 hours per week September to December, 2016
Duties: This Teaching Assistant position will work with Dr. Owen on both class preparation and instruction for the GPP 509 core class on Communications and Public Policy.  The class will cover a wide range of skill and theory development at the intersection of journalism, technology and public policy.

  • Assist in preparation of lecture material
  • Leading of weekly seminar workshops
  • Assist with skill development sessions with class (social media, basic data viz, basic web development)
  • Mentorship and oversight of student group projects
  • Assist in grading of final projects

Salary: This position is paid and the salary is commensurate with the student’s experience.

Job Posting: Research Assistantship / Admin with Professor Taylor Owen
There is a Research Assistantship / Admin position available for Winter session Term 1 and Term 2. This position will work as a research and administrative assistant for research and policy work of Professor Taylor Owen. This will involve work on academic papers, public presentations, and policy consultation processes, as well as light administrative support. Learn more about Professor Owen on the MPPGA website.
Qualifications: 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student at UBC
Position: 5 hours per week, September, 2016 to April, 2017
Duties:

  • RA support on a variety of academic and public policy projects, on topics ranging from technology and international affairs, journalism innovation, virtual reality, and Canadian foreign policy.
  • Research and literature reviews for public writing
  • Coordination of public speaking commitments, including presentation preparation
  • Administration of invoices and travel

Salary: This position is paid and the salary is commensurate with the student’s experience.
