MPPGA Student Association Announces New 2023-24 Executive



UBC Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs (MPPGA) students recently appointed their 2023-24 Student Association (SA) executive members, a diverse group of nine first and second year MPPGA students who are taking on various leadership roles:

  • Co-Presidents: Kirsten Badame & Nozomi Shirakawa
  • Senior Vice President: Nishi Kant Dixit
  • Vice President of Finance: Zach Nanji
  • Vice President of Internal Affairs: Kamali Pahwa
  • Vice President of External Affairs: Mercy Muthuuri
  • Vice President of Communications/Marketing: Anna Szigeti
  • Vice President of Professional Development: Nivedita Harsh
  • Vice President of Social Affairs: Rachel Thibeault

The Student Association brings a rich and diverse breadth of experience to their positions and are honoured to serve the SPPGA student body.

They have set forth their strategic vision for the 2023-24 academic year, to be followed by a comprehensive plan. The goal of this plan is to:

  • Foster an inclusive environment to honour the diversity of each student’s background, to build a community for learning, and to enhance knowledge sharing that caters to different levels of comfortability and availability.
  • Work with the SPPGA to support mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
  • Create a safe environment for all students, including the creation of a Sexual Assault and Harassment response plan.
  • Provide opportunities for professional development in collaborating with staff, faculty and alumni.
  • Provide forum & resources for publishing student content.
  • Consult student body to collect questions, concerns, and initiatives about the program through forums such as office hours, surveys, town halls, and the Annual General Meeting.
  • Provide transparent, consistent, and accountable communication about Student Association activities and initiatives, including financial allocation.
  • Continue to build relationships with the Graduate Studies Society.
  • Update the Student Association Constitution to account for 2022/23 edits and alignment with the fiscal year.
  • Ensure a strengthened and engaged transition between executive teams in collaboration with the Alumni Board.

The Executive Team looks forward to representing the student body and collaborating with staff and faculty to implement the 2023-2024 strategic vision.

The Team will also publish articles, podcasts, and other media created by MPPGA students on The Pub.
