International Development Week (IDW) was established by the Government of Canada to inspire Canadians to address global, contemporary challenges. With the same purpose in mind, this annual conference is led by graduate and undergraduate students at UBC, in partnership with the BC Council for International Cooperation and UBC’s Vancouver School of Economics.

According to Nicole, the goal of the Gender & Development conference is to bring new awareness to issues of gender inequality and global poverty with a multidisciplinary perspective and create rich opportunities for international engagement and understanding. The conference will feature keynote presentations, workshops, panel discussion, and round table. The outcome of the conference will include creating action plans for participants to execute after the conference has concluded, and policy recommendations that will be sent to the Minister of International Development. This will bring positive change to both Canadian society and the world.

As the Director of Sponsorship for the conference, Nicole considered the CASID grant to be a great fit for the conference. Nicole states that “they are grateful and honoured” to be selected as one of the CASID Regional Events that they are sponsoring for 2018 (see here for a complete list).

The conference is also a recipient of the Simon K. Y. Lee Global Lounge’s Global Fund for $2,000.
