Congratulations to UBC Professor Maxwell Cameron (School of Public Policy and Global Affairs; Political Science) for receiving the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) Guillermo O’Donnell Democracy Award and Lectureship 2022.
The Guillermo O’Donnell Democracy Award and Lectureship honors Guillermo O’Donnell’s legacy of pathbreaking contributions to the study of democracy in Latin America. This award and annual lecture, which is given by LASA, the largest professional association in the world for individuals and institutions engaged in the study of Latin America, recognizes exceptional academic contributions in the field of studies of democracy, or contributions to public services that advance democracy and democratic values in Latin America and the Caribbean. The award recipient is invited to deliver a keynote lecture at the annual LASA congress, which this year will be online.
Prof. Cameron said: “There could be no greater honour for a political scientist who works on democracy in Latin America than to receive the Guillermo O’Donnell Democracy Award and Lectureship. I am both thrilled and humbled. Guillermo was and has been throughout my career a model and an inspiration. I accept with deepest gratitude to the selection committee and LASA and look forward to participating in the LASA Congress and preparing a lecture that the occasion merits.”
