SPPGA Welcomes Hanna Karg, Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) welcomes Dr. Hanna Karg as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working with Professor Navin Ramankutty, Canada Research Chair (t1) in Global Environmental Change and Food Security at the University of British Columbia.

Hanna KargHanna has an interdisciplinary background with a focus on quantitative empirical research and spatial analysis. Her research interests include urban food systems, land use change, and cross-border food trade.

At SPPGA, she will explore multi-scalar food distribution networks in West Africa based on primary data on urban food flows using spatial analysis techniques. She will also examine the telecoupled relationships between food trade and agricultural land use.

Dr. Karg is interested in studying urban food systems, and has collected a unique and rich dataset of food flows for several urban centres in West Africa. We are excited to work together to explore various questions about urban food security using this data set.”
