Our MPPGA students are gaining meaningful work experience in an array of positions this summer through the MPPGA Co-op Program. Find below a reflection of her policy-oriented Co-op role from MPPGA student, Sanmini Koffi:

“I am currently working as a Policy Consultant for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). My experience at VCH has been positive and filled with exciting challenges. I am in the process of developing a policy-based framework that can be applied to a diversity of health-related public policy issues ranging from safety to food, and beyond.

The most stimulating part of this experience is having the opportunity to grapple with the complexities of policy-making. For instance, last semester, I learned about the importance of policy windows in the decision-making process. This summer, I am engaging and working with diverse actors who help create policy windows in the health sector. In addition, I am also receiving support and guidance from the SPPGA faculty in ways that have allowed me to transform theory into practice.

All in all, this experience has exceeded my expectations and I am learning more than I could have ever imagined. I am very grateful for this opportunity as it has confirmed and strengthened my passion for health-related policy. I have the certitude that my experience at VCH will serve me greatly in my future endeavours.”
