United Nations Association in Canada and MPPGA Sign New Partnership

UNAC

We are pleased to announce a new partnership between the Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs program and the United Nations Association in Canada (UNAC). The partnership aims to facilitate internship placements in the United Nations system for MPPGA students as Junior Professional Consultants (JPCs), where they will apply their policy knowledge and skills towards positive social, environmental and economic change.

Established in 1946, the United Nations Association in Canada aims to educate and engage Canadians in the work of the UN and the critical international issues that affect us all. They have been running their International Development & Diplomacy Internship Programme (IDDIP) for 19 years. These internships provide successful nominees with invaluable, demanding, deeply meaningful work experience, as well as a proven bridge to employment. UNA-Canada has sent hundreds of JPCs to UN agencies worldwide with over 98% of those JPCs finding related work within six months of completing the programme.

This new partnership will allow UBC’s MPPGA program to select a small number of students through a competitive process for their United Nations Association of Canada MPPGA Young Professional Award. Students will be chosen based on their academic achievements, their readiness to work abroad, and their expertise related to roles in the IDDIP. Nominated students will receive a $2500 award and will be nominated to work with the UNAC to secure a UN internship overseas.
