About

“Be the change you wish to see in the world”. This has been the guiding principle of Tanya’s life.
Tanya was born and raised in India’s capital, New Delhi, where the majority of the country’s decisions are made. She graduated from University of Delhi with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) honours degree in Mathematics, having mathematics as her core subject and economics as her general elective subject. She was also awarded Manohar Lal Silver medal for most talented student of the Mathmatics Department. Subsequently, she enrolled at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade for Master’s in Arts (M.A.) programme in Economics with a specialization in Trade and Finance. During these years, she has worked with Non-profit organizations, such as Teach for India, where she had the opportunity to provide quality education to lesser privileged children, and Visionaries, a student run initiative to help visually impaired students with voice recorded notes for a smooth sailing academic journey even during pandemic. She believes education is a biggest key to reduce inequality.

Immediately after graduating from IIFT in June 2021, she was able to secure a full-time position as a Research Associate in the Trade Policy Division at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. Working at the Ministry has broadened her horizon by seeing policies being implemented, re-evaluated as well as being discussed at multiple levels. She has had the opportunity to work on India’s upcoming FTAs, attend negotiation rounds as well as share her perspectives and research carried on the policies being analyzed before implementation. She also worked upon other bilateral trade issues, various schemes analysis, newly launched trade monitoring portal and preparing presentations for stakeholders and higher-level policy executives on India’s Vision 2047.

Her hobbies and interests include dancing, exercising, trekking and exploring new places, and networking with new people. In the future, she wishes to learn more about other policy areas and fill the gap in policy experts needed in areas such as sustainable development, trade and environmental policies for transitioning to a green economy, green finance, education and climate change policies. The world needs policies that are equally beneficial to disadvantaged communities across the globe and she wishes to be the one to contribute her life to making that happen.
