About the Exhibit:
‘The Story of Seeds,’ explores the human-nature connection through two parts. Old tables and chairs are transformed into flowerpots, symbolizing the importance of valuing trees. Lei Chen’s work traces the journey from seeds to trees, furniture, and back to seeds, creating a circular narrative.
Additionally, Lei encourages her audience to repurpose old shoes as planters for seeds, showcasing ways in which humans and nature can live in harmony.
Lei Chen, a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia, brings nearly two decades of experience in art and art education. She integrates traditional Chinese philosophies with contemporary Western techniques to bridge the gap between nature, society, and culture.
Lei is also passionate about merging Chinese and Western pedagogies, viewing education as a means to refine and uplift the human spirit. The exhibition is open to the public during regular building hours, from 9 am to 5 pm, and is located in the Lobby on the first floor.
